We are Martello
Welcome!
Martello Primary is a one-form entry school in the heart of Folkestone offering places to pupils from Reception to Year 6. We welcome pupils from all areas in and around Folkestone.
We pride ourselves in creating a connected community that brings young people and families together. When your child joins Martello Primary School, they become part of our school family.
At Martello, every member of our school community is invested in providing the best education for the pupils in our care.
Ensuring our pupils experience creative, relevant and enjoyable learning every day is a key driver for our team. We are determined to support pupils in growing academically so they have a broad range of options available to them as they move to each new stage of their life.
Our pupils’ personal development is important to us. We value and celebrate pupils, respecting their individuality whilst helping them grow into successful, socially intelligent citizens. We teach them to understand and respect themselves and others.
Getting to know our pupils and providing them with learning opportunities that match their needs, stages of development and starting points is fundamental to helping them achieve success.
Our School Building
Our school is lucky to be surrounded by fantastic wide-open spaces. Our school overlooks beautiful Folkestone scenery, including those much-desired sea views!
Pupils at Martello Primary are able to enjoy open spaces with access to two larger-than-average school fields in addition to an adventure playground, playground space and AstroTurf for sports.
We are fortunate to be working alongside Custom Food Lab who are currently building garden areas and forest school on the Martello grounds. This beautiful outdoor space will be used by our pupils for recreational and academic purposes, for example gardening club and science lessons. This great space will also be used for community projects (outside of school hours), strengthening the connections between school and families beyond the school day.
Early Years Foundation Stage
We recognise that a child’s first year at school is an incredibly important time. School choice has to feel right, so the best way to decide whether Martello Primary is the right place for your child is to visit us for a tour.
However to gain a brief overview of just some information about Early Years at Martello, please read the below.
At Martello we take the time to get to know our new pupils and their families, making sure that parents and carers are involved in their child’s learning journey every step of the way. We use Tapestry (an online programme) to record, celebrate and share children’s progress with their families.
We know that getting the first stages if school life right is vital for pupils to connect to their education- we want our pupils to love coming to school. For this reason, we take part in meet and greet sessions with families before pupils start to give parents and carers the chance to tell us about their child. We also provide settling-in ‘stay and play’ sessions, Teddy Bears’ picnics and provide a transition booklet with all the information pupils and their families need.
Our ethos for Early Years is centred around quality child-initiated play. We know the value of learning through play. Our Reception pupils have their own special outside area to use.
Our beautiful purpose-built classroom ensures that your child’s learning flows naturally from inside to outside. The classroom is set up as an inviting learning space rich with resources and zones to promote pupil exploration.
Our team is confident in facilitating excellent learning opportunities to enhance pupils’ early development. We know that teaching a love of reading is important, so we read widely and regularly to our pupils throughout each day.
We teach phonics through the well-known Read Write Inc programme. We help our pupils develop as confident talkers and pride ourselves on developing their speaking and listening skills.
All pupils in Reception are provided with healthy free school meals made onsite.
