Geography

At Martello, we strive to spark children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Our coastal location in Folkestone raises fantastic geographical learning opportunities and means we are perfectly positioned to teach children about Europe and the rest of the world!  We believe that whilst it is important to provide children with an excellent knowledge of where places are and what they are like, exploration should be an essential part of geography lessons which is why our curriculum has been designed to include practical activities and regular fieldwork opportunities in our local context.

We want our pupils to leave Martello with a substantial foundation of geographical knowledge and vocabulary, developing a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes and how these are interconnected and interdependent. Through frequent exposure to case study questions, we enable pupils to demonstrate their depth of knowledge in the context of the real world.

We live in a rapidly changing world and we are teaching children at a time of great uncertainty for the future of the planet. Our approach to Geography can support children in understanding the big issues and their possible solutions, whilst encouraging a balanced perspective where comparisons are made without bias or judgement.
