Art
At Martello, we acknowledge that Art and Design have a significant impact on children’s development. Through Art and Design, pupils are given the opportunity to communicate their thoughts, ideas and observations in a practical and expressive way. Our curriculum has been designed to develop skills and techniques using a range of media and allows pupils to study an array of artists, designers and artistic movements. We are particularly lucky to have our own resident artist Mr Sharp (HLTA) to inspire our young artists, as well as Folkestone’s creative quarter on our doorstep with an abundance of inspiring local artwork and artists to work with!
We encourage our pupils to talk about their own and others’ artwork and respond freely to the artists they study, developing creativity and the understanding that art comes in many different forms.
Within our art framework all children have opportunities to:
Know about great artists, craft makers and designers; understanding the historical and cultural development of their art form.
Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other craft and design techniques and skills.
Produce creative work, exploring ideas and recording experiences.
Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
