At Martello, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children and believe that an inclusive, varied PE curriculum has a positive influence on concentration, attitude and academic achievement. We teach our children specific rules of major sports and encourage a healthily competitive attitude both within the school day and during after school clubs.
We provide children with a range of sporting activities in lessons and at lunchtime to promote wellbeing and healthy, active lifestyles. These include golf, football, netball, cricket, basketball, dance, yoga, speed stacking and dodgeball. We also have specialist coaches for squash and tennis lessons.
Pupils are selected to become playground leaders which gives them the opportunity to acquire greater responsibility in supporting play at lunchtime, as well as improving communication skills whilst leading groups, designed to help the playground remain a safe and happy space for all to play and socialise.
