Turner Martello Compass Room

Compass Room

Dear all,

I hope you are all well and staying safe. I have laid out a proposed timetable for the students in the compass room below. Please let me know if you need any help or ideas and I will get back to you through the google classroom or by email. Good luck with home learning and remember to make it fun!

9-9.30: Table tasks- For this you will need an easy activity your child can complete by themself- examples are making a card, a word search, practicing scissor skills, drawing.

9.30-10: Maths. For this you could do Times tables rockstars, Numbots, something from the pack you have been given. Also look on google classroom or purple mash. (Your child should be in the right year group for their ability but if you think we have it wrong please contact me and I will sort it out for you)

10-10.30: Sensory circuit/ play time.

Try these activities

  •  10 x Star Jumps
  • Throwing a ball into a bucket from 2m away (they need to get it in 5x before they can move on)
  • Balancing on one leg for as long as they can.

11-11.30: English or RWI- For this you could use Teach your monsters to read, Purple mash, google classroom or something from the pack. You could also join Read write inc on facebook or youtube they are offering speed sound lessons at different times in the morning to support you in teaching phonics.

11.30-12: Reading stories. Please read lots of lovely stories to your child during this time. Re reading their favorites is as good as trying something new. You can also show them videos of people reading on youtube. The website Vooks is offering free membership at the moment and has lots of lovely audio books. The martello Staff team will be doing all we can to get lots of stories on youtube too.

12-1: Lunch time. The children have been practising skills at school, why not invite them to help you prepare and clean away together – they have been learning how to wash up after themselves.

1-2: Play. Learning through play is so important. I mean hands on play such as lego, crafting, ball skills, imaginative play, gardening, cooking, not gaming. In your packs I have included lego play ideas and some outdoor craft activities. If you want some more ideas of what you could be doing at this time please contact me.

2-2.30: Cosmic Yoga or PE with Joe Wicks– Both can be found on facebook and youtube.

2.30-3.00: Guided meditation- Try New Horizon- meditation and sleep stories for children on Youtube. Followed by affirmations:

  • I can get through anything
  • Today is going to be my day
  • Im working at my own pace
  • I am choosing to have an amazing day.

Or you can write some yourself, I would love to see them in the google classroom.

Have a great day and stay in touch,

Best wishes

Mrs Dorban-Hall
