We recognise that each child is unique, and work carefully to meet individual needs. Where possible these needs are met within mainstream lessons and when necessary, we have specialist staff or interventions.
Martello Primary is fortunate to have the Compass Room, a specialist support area for pupils with a diagnosis of autism. Children at Martello are taught in mainstream classes accessing the room under adult supervision, as appropriate. The Compass Room has direct access to the outside and provision within it has been developed to help children re-orient as needed.
The inclusion of pupils with disabilities in the full life of the school is considered carefully. Our building has the following features that allow participation in school by all pupils:
- a lift in the main building
- toilets accessible by people with disability
Every child has an EHC Plan (Education, Health and Care Plan) prior to their arrival and we work closely with parents and advisors to ensure the link between home and school is positive and supportive.
Our work in the Compass Room and with special education needs is supported by The Beacon Academy and the Kent Specialist Teaching Service.
